IVF: Introduction
Where do I begin -- honestly, I am not sure.
Do I start when my husband and I first started trying..? When we spoke about having children, or when I had my IUD removed, or the date we started diligently tracking my cycle.
Do I start when we found out I couldn't conceive naturally..? When I was 29 at the time, after close to a year, with only one chemical pregnancy to show for it, I knew it was time to see a doctor.
Do I start my story with the doctor visits..? When I made my first appointment with Weill Cornell Reproductive Medicine, or when I picked up my first prescription, or when my husband went in to see if he was the problem. And that word, “problem”.
Maybe my IVF journey only started when I began the first cycle of hormones..? When I would inject multiple needles into my stomach at home, in the hopes my body would react accordingly.
I am not sure where this story will begin, or what questions I will answer, or what details I will miss, but I can tell you how it ends -- with our first attempt at IVF.
