IVF: The Wait
For my husband and I, the two week wait between implantation and going back to the doctor for a pregnancy test, was the longest two weeks of our life.
Did our efforts work? Do we need to go through IVF again? If it did work, what next? If it didn’t work, what next?
Again, this is another great example where IVF sometimes takes the “fun” out of pregnancy. Most women do not realize they are in the process of conceiving or becoming pregnant. They continue living carefree, until the day they miss their period. We tried to not worry, but easier said than done.
Of course we couldn’t help ourselves and did a pregnancy test at home one week after implantation. The double line was so pale, I did not tell my husband. The next day the line was more clear, and continued to darken throughout the week. Although we already knew we were pregnant going into the doctor visit, having my doctor call and congratulate me made everything seem much more real. It was okay to celebrate, it was confirmed. We are pregnant!
Pre-pregnancy
Quick background on where I was pre-pregnancy --
1. Running: averaging about 160 miles every four weeks
2. Weight: gained about five pounds, making my start weight 123 lbs
*My doctor suggested I gain weight due to being underweight, causing hormone imbalances.
3. Nutrition: drank too much, no supplements of any kind, junk food
Now the doctor visits and a new type of stress begins.
